361. Not a blown sky....

I always blow the sky...always...but not on this picture:) It was pretty sunny and she's a little hazy and not super sharp, but I still post it as the picture for today. They can't all be perfect:)

Ok, so what does it mean to "blow" a picture? Does it add clarity?

Having blown spots in a picture might or might not be a good thing...it just depends:) Something being blown just means you have lost all detail in that area...it often happens to the sky (it's white, has no color of blue even though it really was blue that day....it happens because you expose for the subject most often, not the sky...it's not a big deal to blow the sky, it always happens since you want the person to be exposed correctly). It's much less desirable if you blow clothing...it often happens when people wear something bright white...it almost looks like the white is glowing (I have lots of pictures of Sofia in the beginning of this blog with that issue:) It means that I didn't do a good job with my exposure..it was over exposed. It's easy to do if it's bright outside as well. (it still happens to me sometimes unfortunately:)The issue really matter when you want to print the pictures. The clothing will not print that well in the area that is blown (the sky will be ok, just white or grayish). You can also blow the channels in people's face...you definitely don't want that!!! It's very noticeable when people have half their face in the sun, and the other in the shade...one side you can't see any detail's it's almost white.
I hope you get what I'm saying...explaining things on paper is not my strongest thing. If not, I can explain more:)
